Presidents Notes / October 2016 - Elections

The definition of a club, according to Google is “an association or organization dedicated to a particular interest or activity.”  I believe that our club is so much more than that.  While we are dedicated to our hobby of amateur radio, we are also friends, advisors, and laborers for the hobby.  We gather ourselves on a regular basis to socialize, rag chew, mentor, query, and exchange ideas.

Many of us can go through our list of friends, and realize several of them are friends because of our association through the hobby.  We also have many friends whom we have infected with the amateur radio bug.  Some of them by gentle persuasion, others by the constant nagging to get their “ticket.”  The majority of the time this is done because we want someone else to be able to share our excitement that we have for the hobby of amateur radio.

Now we are all being given the opportunity to just step up, and take a leadership role in the club we enjoy being part of.  All of our officer positions within the club are up for election except for one (Board Member-even year).  This gives all of us the opportunity to seek one of these officer positions.  This gives all of you in the club the opportunity to take a leadership role with the club, and to help guide where we go in the future.  Is it you, or do you know someone who you feel will act in the best interest of the club?  Give careful consideration to the opportunities that are present for all the club members.  Think hard about where the club is going, and where you would like to see it go.

Finally I ask, mostly in a serious way but just with a small quip of humor.  Ask not what your club can do for you, but what you can do for your club.  I look forward to seeing you all at the club meetings, upcoming breakfasts, and hearing you on the air.

Avoid the RF burns and QRM, and continue to enjoy your hobby and grow your St Louis & Suburban Radio Club.  Please contact Joe Fleagle, WØFY at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to throw your hat in the ring.
